R&D credit study support for your clients.
Your client may be developing a product, improving a manufacturing process, or working through a software challenge. You may already understand the financial picture while needing a more detailed account of the technical activities. Bringing those perspectives together is an important part of a research credit review.
Paribus Advisors prepares federal and state R&D tax credit studies and supporting claim packages. We work with businesses and their accounting and advisory teams to organize the information that connects projects to the numbers. We coordinate your client’s credit preparation with your firm, so you can review the calculations and supporting facts alongside the return. Together, we define the entities, years, state scope, and information needed before the work begins.
Tell us about the client, the tax years involved, and where your firm needs help. You do not need to have estimated the credit or confirmed eligibility before calling.
How we work with
your firm and your client.
Your client explains the work, we prepare the study, and your firm handles the tax return.
Your client
Explains the development work and provides technical and financial records.
Paribus Advisors
Evaluates research activities and qualified expenses, calculates credits, and prepares the study package.
Your firm
Reviews the workpapers and coordinates return treatment, elections, and filing.
Which clients may benefit from a review?
A conversation about a client’s development projects can reveal questions worth exploring. A client may mention prototype testing, technical design changes, unresolved performance problems, or alternative software approaches. These topics suggest questions to explore; they do not establish eligibility on their own.
Ask who can explain the work and what records exist. A technical lead may be able to describe the project but not the financial allocation. A controller may have the payroll and ledger information but not the development history. Identifying both contacts early makes the information request more purposeful.
Our eligibility guide provides a plain-language discussion outline. You can use it to gather context before a joint call without presenting a preliminary screening as a final tax opinion.
How we work with your firm.
Your firm knows the client’s tax situation. Their technical and finance teams can explain the projects and provide the records. Paribus connects that information through QRE evaluation, credit calculations, and preparation of the supporting study package. We agree on deadlines and the documents your firm needs before work begins.
| Participant | Focus of the discussion |
|---|---|
| Business and technical team | Explain projects, confirm factual narratives, and provide underlying records |
| Finance team | Identify accounting sources, reconcile amounts, and clarify allocations |
| Paribus Advisors | Evaluate qualified research expenses, calculate credits, and assemble supporting study workpapers within the agreed scope |
| Return preparer | Evaluate return treatment, elections, filing requirements, and final submission |
The engagement defines the services and responsibilities for your client. Calculation and documentation preparation does not automatically include examination representation; please discuss any additional needs with us.
What your firm receives.
We assemble your client’s study package for your firm’s review, connecting qualifying activities, QRE analysis, credit calculations, and supporting documentation. The file connects the relevant tax year, business components, expense sources, and calculation method, with open questions identified for follow-up.
Our preparation connects project descriptions to the financial workpapers and underlying records. That gives your team a way to follow the client’s activities through to the amounts being evaluated, with explanations of material assumptions and adjustments.
When the engagement includes state credits, we prepare the state calculations alongside the federal work. Your team can review the location information and state-specific treatment with the client’s broader tax position in mind.
Prepare for your client’s next tax year.
An annual review is easier to organize when the prior file is understandable. A dated project inventory, consistent expense categories, and a record of outstanding questions can provide a practical starting point for the next year. They should not become an automatic carry-forward of the prior conclusion.
Ask the client what changed: new products, different facilities, acquisitions, staffing changes, or revised contracts may affect the information needed. Confirm that the period and entity scope still match the tax work being performed.
We agree with your firm on how to route information requests and confirm technical facts with the client. This helps your client know what to provide and keeps your firm informed as the study progresses.
Call Paribus Advisors to discuss a client’s R&D activities. We can begin with a high-level description and agree on the next preparation steps before any sensitive records are shared.
