Two business professionals reviewing project documents together in an office

You develop and improve. We help you understand your R&D credit opportunities.

Federal and state R&D tax credit studies, QRE evaluation, and supporting study packages.

R&D support,
from start to finish.

We start by learning what your team develops and how it works. Then we review the project records and expenses with input from your accountant.

Whether this is your first study or you have claimed the credit before, we agree on the years, states, and services you need before work begins.

See our approach

  1. 01

    Talk through your work.

Tell us what your business develops, improves, and tests. We start with the projects, the people who know them, and the years you want to discuss.

  2. 02

    Review your projects and expenses.

Bring technical activities and financial information into one review. Identify the source records and clarify questions before the calculation is finalized.

  3. 03

    Prepare your study package.

Bring an organized study package to your tax team: activity findings, expense analysis, credit calculations, and supporting workpapers.

You build the next thing.
We prepare the R&D study.

Understand which research activities and expenses qualify, how the credit is calculated, and what supports the claim.

Federal R&D tax credit studies

Evaluate research activities and expenses, calculate the federal credit, and bring the supporting records together in a study package for your tax team.

State R&D credit studies

Consider relevant state programs alongside your federal review. Identify where the work occurs and organize the information needed for a state-specific calculation.

Innovation takes
many forms.

A laboratory is not the only place development happens. The relevant question is what your team does, how it evaluates technical alternatives, and what the records show.

Products & manufacturing

If your team builds prototypes, changes designs, or tests technical alternatives, some of that work may qualify. Separate the development work from routine production and ordinary quality checks.

Software & technology

Look at the technical problem and the approaches evaluated. Distinguish development activities from routine maintenance, configuration, and support.

Processes & engineering

Describe the technical limitation, alternatives tested, and results. A broad statement about greater efficiency needs a factual account of the work behind it.

Other industries

An industry label is not an eligibility decision. Discuss specific projects, the years involved, where the work occurs, and the evidence available.

What is the R&D tax credit?

The federal research credit is a tax incentive for qualifying research expenses. Eligibility depends on the activities and applicable requirements. Some states offer separate research credits with their own rules.

Does my business need a research laboratory?

No. Potentially qualifying work can occur outside a laboratory, including certain product, process, and software development activities. The actual work must satisfy the applicable requirements; an industry label alone does not establish eligibility.

What records should we prepare?

Start with project descriptions, technical records, payroll information, and relevant expense records. The information needed depends on your activities and the credit being evaluated.

Can Paribus help with federal and state credits?

Yes. Paribus Advisors prepares federal and state R&D tax credit studies and supporting claim packages. State programs and requirements vary, so the review should reflect where your business operates and performs research.

Can you work with our accountant or business advisor?

Yes. We prepare R&D tax credit studies and supporting claim packages in coordination with businesses and their accounting and advisory teams. Your tax preparer reviews the return treatment and filing responsibilities.
